Clinical Competencies

This page includes the certificates and clinical competency labs I have completed throughout the program.

Range of Motion & Manual Muscle Testing 

Demonstrated competence in measuring a patient's range of motion and muscle strength by utilizing a goniometer and proper manual muscle testing techniques learned in class.

 Clinical Examination; Cognitive Competency I &

Demonstrated competency in performing clinical examination of simulated patients post-stroke or spinal cord injury with proper documentation of assessments completed.

 Balance Testing; Cognitive Competency II

Demonstrated competence in administering cognitive assessments such as the MoCA or SLUMS. Balance testing utilizing standardized assessments such as the TUG test was administered and documented as well as simulated patients with chronic conditions in need of rehabilitation services. 

UE Hemiplegia Lab

Sensory, Coordination, and Vision Lab

Motor and Balance Lab

This lab educated us on techniques to utilize for patients with UE hemiplegia. These techniques included tapping, hemi-dressing techniques, etc.  

This lab educated us on different assessments and interventions used to assist people with sensory, coordination, and visual deficits. 

This lab educated us on transfers and safety procedures to follow when working with clients with motor and balance deficits.

AT Lab

AT Compentency

3D Printing Lab

This lab educated students on how Assitive Technology (AT) can be utilized as an intervention within several occupations. 

This lab assessed our ability to provide education to a client regarding a modified technique or AT device to promote independence with an occupation. 

This lab educated students on the role 3D printing can play as a more financially viable option for clients to receive an AT decide or modified device to promote independence in occupations.

Transfer Lab

This lab educated students on how to safely transfer clients in a multitude of ways, and how to properly use equipment such as lifts, canes, walkers, pivot discs, and more. This lab greatly enhanced the experience and use of equipment and body mechanics necessary to complete a safe patient transfer. 

Transfer Competency

This lab focused on practicing different types of transfers that OT's could experience in a variety of settings. This included transfer from laying supine to sitting edge of bed, transfers on and off a toilet/commode, going from wheelchair to table, etc.

Splinting Lab

This lab consisted of learning about different orthoses as well as fabricating two different hand/wrist splints

Caregiver Casestudy

An interview was conducted with a caregiver of an adult daughter with Rhett's syndrome. Interview was followed by an in-depth analysis of problematic areas on occupational balance. Case study write-up included created goals, an intervention plan, discharge recommendations, and interprofessional recommendations.

Young Adult Case Study

An interview was conducted with a 19-year-old student with intellectual disabilities. The interview was followed by an in-depth analysis of problematic areas on his vocational performance while working in customer service. The case study write-up included created goals, an intervention plan, discharge recommendations, and interprofessional recommendations.

Worker Casestudy

An interview was conducted with a 64-year-old meat cutter returning to work after a CABG surgery. The interview was followed by an in-depth analysis of problematic areas in his vocational performance after returning to work post-operation. The case study write-up included created goals, an intervention plan, discharge recommendations, and interprofessional recommendations.

Older Adult Case Study

An interview was conducted with a older adult living independently in the community at home. Interview was followed by an in-depth analysis of problematic areas to promote successful aging in place. Case study presentation included created goals, an intervention plan, discharge recommendations, and interprofessional recommendations.

Live Evaluation and Intervention

With another OT student, a 45-minute live evaluation was done on a pt. with a TBI and scapular mobility issues. Goals and an intervention plan were created. The intervention was then created and performed with the pt. in a 15-minute session. Competency included live eval, intervention, documentation, goal writing, and a reflection assignment.
